Soniya Fernandes, Poppies Franchisee – Poppies of Hounslow , has been named a finalist in the prestigious NatWest Encouraging Women into Franchising (EWiF) Awards 2024. The NatWest EWiF Awards celebrate and recognise the remarkable achievements of women in the franchising industry across the UK.
This year, Soniya has been made a finalist in the Young Woman in Franchising of the Year 2024 (under 30) category, which honours the most successful young woman in franchising in 2023. This nomination underscores her exceptional contributions, innovative approach, and dedication to fostering growth and success within the franchising community.
Born and raised in India, Soniya comes from a background in finance. When she initially moved to the UK in 2019, Soniya struggled to find a job due to the language barrier.
After much determination and drive, she worked in various sales roles to hone her skills in Business English to ensure she is well-equipped to serve the community’s needs, and now has been a driving force behind Poppies Hounslow success, demonstrating exemplary leadership and vision. From having no prior industry knowledge and starting the business around a full time job, she quickly propelled the business forward, which resulted in her leaving her full time job and recruiting her husband to also work within the business full time. Soniya’s drive and ambition lead to her exceeding the expected growth for a new franchise.
“I am incredibly honoured to be recognised as a finalist in the NatWest EWiF Awards,” said Soniya. “This nomination is a testament to the hard work and passion that I, along with my dedicated team, have poured into Poppies of Hounslow. It is a privilege to be acknowledged among such inspiring and accomplished women in the franchising sector.”
The NatWest EWiF Award ceremony will take place on 18th October at The Royal Armouries, Leeds, where winners will be announced and celebrated. The event brings together industry leaders, franchisors, franchisees, and supporters to acknowledge and applaud the contributions of women who are shaping the future of franchising.
